More Thai action in 'The Tiger Blade'
by Mark Pollard
Mix Thailand's kinetic action filmmaking in the tradition of Ong Bak with liberal doses of B-grade special effects and you have The Tiger Blade, an action comedy that like Korea's Arahan, puts magical swordplay elements into a modern, urban setting.
Faced with a difficult case involving a deadly gang, police assign Yosthana (Asadawut Luangsuntorn in his film debut), a maverick cop with mystical powers to hunt them down. But his only chance of defeating before before they tear the city apart is in finding and using an ancient, magical sword known as "The Tiger Blade."
The film is written and directed by Teeratorn Siripunwaraporn. Action sequences have been put together by Baan Rig Co., a local team specializing in camera rigging for stunts. The film's action-packed trailer suggests they received a serious workout by the film's martial arts combat and various chases involving cars, skateboards, rollerblades, and go karts.
